Teacher Training

Trinity College London CertTESOL

Certificate in TESOL

English language teaching provides rewarding and accessible work opportunities, both as a long-term career and as an additional source of income. Thanks to Ireland’s heightened profile in recent years, demand for qualified teachers is higher than ever.

The UCD English Language Academy is committed to playing a strong part in training the next generation of teachers and has established the Certificate in TESOL programme in partnership with Trinity College London.

The course runs part-time over 11 weeks and is designed to be manageable alongside other work or study commitments. It also offers graduates strong employment opportunities upon successful completion of the course.

A course of this type would ordinarily cost in excess of €1,500. However, as our course is run on a not-for-profit basis, candidates are required to pay only the registration fee (€450).

Testimonial

I took the certTESOL course at the UCD English Language Academy in Autumn 2018 and can recommend it to anyone interested in gaining an internationally-recognised TESOL qualification.

This was a great course – varied, imaginative, learner-focussed, and delivered by highly experienced ESL teachers who understand the complexity of the teaching and learning processes.

What distinguishes this course from other ESL courses is the teachers: they were exceptionally skilled, demanding yet supportive, and always generous in sharing their experience of teaching English in diverse countries and cultures.

An important feature of the course was the observed teaching practice. This offered trainees an opportunity to put the theory we’d learned into practice and to receive detailed, constructive feedback on the content and delivery of our lessons afterwards. Invaluable.

With classes in the evening and on Saturday, I was able to attend the course while continuing to work during the day. It was challenging but well worthwhile. I’m now teaching ESL, still learning with every class, and enjoying it enormously. I can honestly say that for anyone interested in gaining the certTESOL this is an excellent course.
