Work & Study Programme

Work & Study Programme: General English

The Work & Study programme is available to non-EU visa requiring students and combines 25 weeks of study with 10 weeks of holidays.

Students can follow the General English course which focuses on speaking, listening, reading and writing with authentic materials and tasks, as well as taking a context-based approach to grammar and vocabulary.  Throughout the course, students will also develop the ability to express critical thinking in English and take English language exams. Students are introduced to global topics and learner collaboration is encouraged, through projects and discussion.

Students can work part-time (maximum of 20 hours per week) while they are studying and can work full-time (maximum of 40 hours per week) during their 10 weeks’ holidays. Students on the Work & Study programme can only take their 10 weeks’ holidays during January, June, July, August, September and December.

Students on the Work & Study programme must book an end-of-course exam and medical insurance that is valid for the duration of their stay. UCD English Language Academy is an official IELTS test centre and Cambridge exam centre so students can opt to take either exam on campus at the end of their course.

What students say

"In my opinion UCD ELA is one of the best schools in Dublin to learn English. When I started the course I had very poor English and I can say that my speaking skills improved a lot since then."

Efren David Alvarez, Mexico
